Sunday 5thApril 09 Anstey Swifts 1v 2 Riverside Utd U10s Well the big day had arrived for the boys, their first 11 a side match, 4 new positions, the offside rule, a bigger pitch,a bigger goal. How would they cope, very well was the answer. For all the new rules Riverside and Anstey managed to produce a very watchable game of football. It was a close encounter with both sides having their fair share ofearly chances, but it was Riverside who made the break through with Joe Caldwell finishing off a well worked goal towards the end off the first half. The game followed a similar pattern in the second half, but it was Anstey who hit the net this time to level up the match. With about ten minutes of the game remaining George Jones was brought down in the box, leaving the ref no choice but to award a penalty. Callum Bray slotted home the penalty 2-1 to Riverside and that is the way it stayed. Overall a lot of good performances, but a lot of things to work on. The boys didn't get off to a great start in the first half, conceding 2 sloppy goals. We did have a few chances of our own, but failed to put any of them away. The second half though did start better, with Riverside pulling one back early on through Callum Bray. The boys did keep battling and never gave up and were rewarded with about 5 minutes to go with Harley Ward converting a well taken equaliser. All in all a well organised and worthwhile exercise Scorers Callum Bray 1 Harley Ward 1 Man of the Match: Harley Ward Wednesday 29thApril 09 Oadby Town 3v 2 Riverside Utd U10s (Judgemeadow 11 a side Summer League) Riverside needed to bounce back with a good performance after last weeks disappointing display against Thurmaston. They certainly looked like they taken a few things on board in the first half with a good solid display, although the chances were few and far between and we went in goalless. Things did liven up in the second half and once again the marking from a corner was lax and Oadby took the lead with a well directed header. Riverside came back well though with Callum Bray curling in a free kick from the edge of the box, giving the keeper no chance 1-1. We then took the lead with Joe Caldwell lashing a strike in from the left. Unfortunately Riverside could not hold on for the last ten minutes and a few lapses in concentration led to Oadby scoring 2 late goals and taking the game 3-2.
